Visit to Stanway House, a Jacobean Manor House – June 2022
The house has a long history having been owned by the same family for 500 years. The Earl of Wemyss is the current owner.
25 Members were treated to a fascinating tour of the house by Paul, our entertaining and thoroughly knowledgeable guide. There were many paintings, including 6 generations of the family in the drawing room – most of whom died young.
Among other items of interest was an exceptionally long shuffle board table made from a single piece of timber, a Georgian exercise chair and two beautiful Chippendale day beds.
After a splendid tea and cake we went into the extensive gardens and were amazed by a 300 ft gravity fed fountain – the tallest fountain in Britain.
The weather stayed fine and a very enjoyable time was had by everyone
